Who We Are

Supporting justice-impacted individuals during reentry

Most programs manage people.
We help them be in charge of themselves.

8-Dow is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to supporting justice-impacted individuals during reentry, as well as people in recovery and foster youth aging out of the system โ€” pairing each person with a professional Change Coach trained in Dr. Amy Johnson's approach, and giving them the 8-Dimension map to rebuild every part of their life.

This isn't case management. This isn't a hotline. This is a real partner who walks the path with you until you are ready to walk it alone.

What We Offer

Two services. One mission.

Everything 8ยทDow does falls into two things โ€” pairing you with a certified coach, and certifying the life skills that keep you free.

Our Philosophy
"We don't make people change. We simply make sure the water is there when they're ready to drink."

We won't push you, rush you, or "fix" you. Change that sticks comes from the inside โ€” our job is simply to keep the water within reach. Here, drink whenever you're thirsty.

Why 8ยทDow

What makes us different

Most programs manage people. We help them be in charge of themselves. Here's what sets our coaches apart from anyone else.

Certified, not just caring

Every 8ยทDow coach is a professionally certified Change Coach โ€” trained in Dr. Amy Johnson's Little School of Big Change. Not volunteers. Not case managers. Top-tier professionals.

The 8-Dimension map

We don't fix one problem. We use the SAMHSA 8-dimension wellness framework to rebuild the whole person โ€” emotional, physical, social, financial, spiritual, intellectual, occupational, and environmental.

A partner who stays

Not a rotating social worker or a 12-week program that ends. A real coach who walks with you โ€” through reentry, recovery, or aging out โ€” until you're ready to walk it alone.

Non-coercive, readiness-based

We don't make people change. We simply make sure the water is there when they're ready to drink. You move at your own pace, with unconditional support.

Who We Serve

Three populations. One shared truth.

The system failed them. We don't.

Including justice-impacted individuals navigating reentry.

Coming Home
Pillar I

Coming Home

The Reality

Most people leaving prison are given a bus pass and a list of rules. Within two years, half are back inside because the world is overwhelming.

What We Do

We provide a Change Coach who has been there. We help you navigate the noise of "real life" without losing your cool or your freedom.

For Donors

It costs California $132,000 a year to keep one person in a cell. A single 8-Dow Change Coach costs a fraction of that โ€” and keeps them home for good.

Finding Solid Ground
Pillar II

Finding Solid Ground

The Reality

Rehab is a bubble. "Real life" is where the wheels fall off. 60% of people slip back because they are trying to "white-knuckle" their way through cravings.

What We Do

We don't manage your addiction; we help you understand the thoughts behind it. When you see a craving for what it is โ€” just a temporary thought โ€” it loses its power.

For Donors

Moving from "recovering" to "recovered." It's not a verb that never ends โ€” it's a state of being.

Starting Out
Pillar III

Starting Out

The Reality

At 18, foster kids are told "good luck" and handed a trash bag of clothes. 65% end up on the street because they have no map and no one staying with them.

What We Do

We are the safety net that actually holds. A Change Coach who stays with you โ€” not a social worker who rotates out โ€” to build a solid foundation before the "cliff" happens.

For Donors

Your investment gives a young person a partner who sticks. Not a program. A person with a map and the time to walk it with them.

Real People. Real Stakes.

These are the people no one else waited for.

Marcus, 41
Coming Home

Marcus, 41

"The hardest part wasn't prison. It was walking out and realizing no one had a plan for me."

After 9 years, Marcus walked out with $200, a bus pass, and a list of rules he couldn't afford to break. No one asked how he was sleeping. No one asked what he needed. He was just supposed to figure it out.

With a Change Coach, he did.

Diana, 34
Finding Solid Ground

Diana, 34

"I had 90 days clean and no idea who I was without the thing I was recovering from."

Rehab gave Diana a 30-day window. Real life had no such structure. Every anxious thought felt like an emergency. She needed someone who understood that willpower isn't the answer โ€” and could show her what is.

A coach who got it changed everything.

Jordan, 19
Starting Out

Jordan, 19

"On my 18th birthday, the state said I was done. I had nowhere to go."

Jordan had been in 6 placements before turning 18. The system aged them out with a trash bag, a pamphlet, and a handshake. 65% of young people in that position end up homeless within two years. Jordan almost did.

An 8-Dow coach stayed.

Behind every statistic is a person who needed one thing.

Someone who didn't give up on them.

How It Works

The Walk to a New Life

Getting out of the system is hard because the path forward is usually blurry. We make it clear.

STEP 01

Meet Your Coach

You aren't assigned a case manager. You are paired with a professional Change Coach. We start by listening โ€” where you are right now, and where you feel the most stuck.

STEP 02

Look at the Map

We use the 8 Dimensions of Wellness to see where your foundation is weak. Is it your money? Your home? Your peace of mind? We look at all of it together.

We use the wellness framework established by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (SAMHSA) to ensure no part of your life is overlooked.

STEP 03

See Through the Noise

Using the approach from Dr. Amy Johnson, your coach shows you how your mind actually works. Your old habits, urges, and "stuck" feelings are just noise. When the noise quietens down, your own common sense takes over.

STEP 04

One Step at a Time

We don't try to fix everything at once. We pick the most important part of your Map and start walking โ€” a job, stable housing, a circle of people who support you.

STEP 05

You Take the Lead

The goal isn't for you to need us forever. The goal is for you to become the person in charge of your own life โ€” with a solid foundation and the understanding that you have everything you need to keep going.

Real People. Real Change.

What happens when someone walks beside you

"Anton has a clear and down to earth way of talking about the Principles. When I speak with him I slow down and see things clearly. He doesn't interfere in the conversation and stays out of giving advice so I can see it for myself."

Why We Need Your Help

The cost of failure
is staggering.

We provide the one thing the government can't: a real person who stays with them, trains them, and helps them find their own footing. Your money doesn't go to overhead โ€” it goes directly to coaching the people who are ready to work.
